Mobile tyre fitting in London is only as quick as the preparation behind it. A few minutes of effort from you can save the fitter a surprising amount of time, and a ready car makes the whole visit smoother.
That’s why we’ve put together this checklist for our customers who use mobile tyre fitting at Olympus. It covers how to prepare before we arrive and how to look after your new tyres once we’ve gone.
This guide sits alongside our complete Herts and North London guide and puts the practical steps in one place. Save it to your phone and tick it off on the day.
Good preparation matters because most of us know what to do but don’t always do it. Research by TyreSafe and the AA surveyed more than 22,000 UK drivers. It found that 96% say they know how to check their tyre pressure, yet only 30% had done so in the previous week.
Read on for the full checklist, and use it to keep your tyres, and yourself, in good shape.
Get Your Car Ready for Mobile Tyre Fitting in London

Preparation starts before the fitter pulls up. Choosing where the car sits and clearing room around it gives us the best possible start.
Park Somewhere Safe
If you can, park on flat, solid ground, because a level surface keeps the car steady on the jack. Avoid corners and hills, where other traffic may not see you and the car can shift.
Switch off the engine and apply the handbrake before you step out. If you’ve broken down and you’re stranded, turn on your hazard lights.
The Highway Code tells drivers to stop in a place of relative safety, where you and your passengers are least exposed to moving traffic. It also advises getting your vehicle off the road if possible.
If you’ve called us for an emergency, your safety always comes first. Our emergency tyre fitting service sends a fitter to the roadside or to your home.
Clear the Space Around the Wheel
Our fitters need room to work, so a quick tidy helps. Before we arrive, take care of these jobs:
- Remove heavy items from the boot
- Move any objects away from the tyres
- Keep the locking wheel nut key somewhere easy to reach
A clear space lets us finish the job quickly and safely.
Gather the Details That Put the Right Tyres on Your Car
The right information up front means the right tyres arrive on the first trip. Three details do most of the work.
Know Your Tyre Size and Speed Rating
Look at the sidewall of your tyre and you’ll find a code such as 205/55R16. The first number is the width in millimetres. The second is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of that width, and the last is the wheel size in inches.
A load index and a speed rating follow the code. Give us the whole thing when you book, and we’ll bring the correct tyres. TyreSafe lists 205/55R16 as the most common tyre size in the UK, so there’s a fair chance your code looks familiar.
Find Your Locking Wheel Nut Key
Many cars have locking wheel nuts, and we can’t remove a wheel without the key. It’s normally in the glove box or the boot.
If you can’t find it, tell us when you call. We also offer locking wheel nut removal, so we can plan for it before we set off.
Have Your Registration Number Ready
Your vehicle registration number lets us confirm the correct tyres before we arrive. Give it to us alongside your tyre size, and we’ll check the two against each other.
Pack a Safety Kit That Earns Its Place in the Boot
We arrive fully equipped, but a few items in your own car make any wait safer and more comfortable. These are worth keeping on board:
- A warning triangle
- A high-vis vest
- A torch, especially for night-time
- A phone charger
- A tyre pressure gauge
On ordinary roads, the Highway Code says to place a warning triangle at least 45 metres behind your vehicle on the same side of the road. It also advises wearing light or fluorescent clothing by day and reflective clothing at night, and it warns you not to stand between your vehicle and oncoming traffic.
Motorways follow different rules. The same guidance says never to place a warning triangle on the carriageway, so leave it in the boot there.
The gauge is the quiet hero of the kit. TyreSafe recommends checking your pressure monthly with a reliable gauge.
Stay Calm and Stay Connected While You Wait

A breakdown can feel stressful, especially in a busy city. A few simple habits keep you calm and help us find you faster.
Share Your Location
Send your location to a family member or friend as soon as you’ve called us. Clear location details help us reach you quickly, and they give the people who care about you some peace of mind.
Keep Your Phone Charged and Our Number Saved
Save our number before you ever need it, so you can ring for updates without searching. A charged phone is your lifeline while you wait.
Stay Inside if the Area Feels Unsafe
If you don’t feel safe outside, stay in your vehicle with the doors closed. On a motorway, the Highway Code says to leave the vehicle by the side away from traffic if it’s safe. It also says to keep passengers well away from the carriageway.
Should you be unable to get clear of the traffic, stay in the car with your seat belt on and your hazard lights flashing, and call 999.
What to Expect When the Fitter Arrives
A clear picture of the visit helps you plan your morning or afternoon around it. Here’s how the work unfolds from the moment we park up.
The Fitting Itself
We take off the worn tyre and fit the new one, then balance the wheel before it returns to your car. Finally, we set the pressure to the figure your car needs.
Stay and watch if you like, or head back indoors until we knock. Our fitters are glad to explain anything you’re curious about.
Settling Up and Signing Off
We take your old tyre away for disposal, which leaves nothing for you to deal with afterwards. You’ll also receive a clear breakdown of what we fitted and what you paid.
Payment is simple, because you can pay by cash, Visa, Mastercard, Google Pay, or Apple Pay on the spot once the job is done.
Your Checklist at a Glance
Here’s the short version to keep on your phone. Work through it before we arrive, and the visit should go without a hitch:
- Park on flat, solid ground away from corners and hills
- Apply the handbrake and switch off the engine
- Clear the boot and the space around the tyres
- Find the locking wheel nut key
- Note your tyre size, speed rating, and registration number
- Charge your phone and share your location with someone you trust
- Keep a warning triangle, a high-vis vest, and a torch within reach
Ask Your Fitter the Right Questions
It’s always fine to ask questions, and a quality service will be glad to answer them. Here are five worth putting to any tyre fitter, along with our answers.
Ask About Brands and Budgets
You might wonder which tyre brands are available. We provide budget, mid-range, and premium tyres, so you can match the tyre to your car and your wallet.
Confirm the Tyres Are New and Road-Legal
Every tyre we deliver is brand new and roadworthy. All of the tyres we supply meet UK road safety regulations, so you can drive away with confidence.
Check That Wheel Balancing Is Included
Balancing is included in our service. It matters because a balanced wheel gives you a smooth ride.
Learn How Long Your Tyres Should Last
Tyre life depends on your driving habits and on road conditions. Careful driving, regular pressure checks, and a good eye for tread depth all help your tyres go the distance.
Request a Pressure Check
We make sure your tyres are properly inflated before we complete your appointment. That gives you the right starting point, and it saves you a job on the way home.
At Olympus, we believe in honest, quality service, so we welcome every one of these questions.

Aftercare Tips That Make Your New Tyres Last Longer

After your mobile tyre fitting in London, proper care helps your new tyres last longer and perform better. Four habits make the biggest difference.
Ease Into the First 50 to 100 Miles
We advise you to avoid hard braking and sharp cornering for the first 50 to 100 miles. Drive smoothly, and give the tyres time to settle in before you ask them for anything demanding. A gentle start also gives you a chance to notice anything that feels unusual.
Check Your Tyre Pressure Every Month
A monthly check keeps you safe and saves fuel. Set a reminder on your phone so it becomes a habit. TyreSafe’s figures show that 56.8% of car tyres in the UK sit at least 4psi below the recommended pressure, and that tyres 6psi below it use 3% more fuel.
Use a reliable gauge and check when the tyres are cold. Our tyre pressure guide walks you through it step by step.
Check the Tread Depth
The legal minimum tread depth for cars in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, according to GOV.UK. TyreSafe suggests you consider replacing tyres once the tread falls below 3mm, and we agree.
Grip in the wet is the reason. In TyreSafe’s figures, a car braking from 50mph on a wet road stops in 25.9 metres on a new 8mm tyre. On a tyre worn to 1.6mm, it needs 37.8 metres, which is almost 12 metres of extra stopping distance.
Our tread depth guide shows you how to measure what’s left in a couple of minutes.
Report Any Unusual Vibration
Pay attention to anything that feels different once you’re back on the road. A new vibration or a pull to one side is worth a call, so don’t hesitate to contact us.
